Dillard Falls to Crosstown Rival in Heated Matchup
NEW ORLEANS– On April 18, 2025, Xavier University of Louisiana hosted Dillard University for a men's tennis match. The event took place at 6:00 PM and ended with a decisive victory for Xavier, who triumphed over Dillard with a final score of 4-0.
In the doubles matches, Xavier secured wins in two out of three contests. The pair of Nereo Suarez and Jacobi Bain defeated Dillard's Yassine Benjemaa and Nour Ibrahim with a score of 6-3. Similarly, Ivan Vazquez and Gabriel Velez from Xavier overcame Jesus Rodriguez and Siddharth Arya from Dillard, also with a scoreline of 6-3. However, Dillard managed a win in the third doubles match with Tarique Bobia and Daniel Crowie besting Xavier's Artur Yakubov and VanDer Woody 6-2.
The singles matches saw Xavier further establish their dominance. Nereo Suarez defeated Siddharth Arya in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Jacobi Bain edged out Yassine Benjemaa in a closely contested match, finishing 7-6, 7-6. Ivan Vazquez then secured a straightforward victory over Nour Ibrahim, winning 6-2, 6-3. Meanwhile, Gabriel Velez from Xavier had a tough match against Jesus Rodriguez but ultimately won 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
Despite some spirited performances, Dillard could not match Xavier's overall strength across both doubles and singles categories. The match lasted 2 hours and 15 minutes, reflecting the intensity and competitive spirit on display from both teams.
