Dillard University Men’s Track & Field Delivers Strong Performances with Multiple Podium Finishes
HAMMOND, La. – The Dillard University men's track & field team produced several strong performances this weekend, highlighted by a victory in the hurdles, a relay national qualifying mark, and multiple podium finishes across running, jumping, and throwing events.
Freshman Denim Charles led the Bleu Devils in the sprints, placing second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.86 (0.1). Senior James Pennington III also competed in the event, recording a time of 11.37.
In the 200 meters, freshman Mark Emilien delivered a strong performance with a third-place finish in 22.03, while Pennington posted 22.99 and Anthony Thompson finished in 23.82.
Senior Jamaal Morris Jr. represented Dillard in the 400 meters, finishing fifth overall with a time of 49.36.
The 800 meters saw a strong showing from the Bleu Devils distance group. Kydell Miner led the team with a 2:00.09, followed closely by Khel Arvie at 2:00.87. Freshman Jordan Thomas clocked 2:02.62, while Markel Myles finished in 2:02.84, and Jordan Winder posted 2:08.97.
In distance events, K'mon Washington competed in both the 1500 meters and 5000 meters, running 4:24.53 in the 1500 and placing seventh in the 5000 with a time of 17:18.47. Freshman Phillip Issac ran 4:48.44 in the 1500 and 18:06.09 in the 5000.
The highlight of the meet came in the 110-meter hurdles, where junior Markel Myles captured first place with a time of 15.22, leading a group of four Dillard hurdlers. Jeremy Geary Jr. finished fifth in 19.41, Dorian Cook followed in 19.42, and Ja'lahn Limbrick ran 19.87.
Geary returned later in the day to place second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.95. Cook finished fourth in 1:01.44, while Limbrick recorded 1:07.11.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Surprise Babalola, Denim Charles, Mark Emilien, and Jamaal Morris Jr.placed second overall with a time of 40.44, achieving both the NAIA "A" and "B" national qualifying standards.
Dillard also secured a second-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, as Jeremy Geary Jr., Kydell Miner, Jordan Thomas, and Khel Arvie combined to run 3:31.39.
In the field events, Anthony Thompson led the way with a first-place finish in the long jump, leaping 6.56 meters (21'6.25"). He also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.43 meters (44'0.75").
Freshman Elijah Williams cleared 1.83 meters (6'0") to place second in the high jump. Williams also competed in the horizontal jumps, placing fourth in the long jump (5.57m) and fifth in the triple jump (11.87m).
Additional long jump results included Dequane Davis, who placed third with a jump of 6.03 meters, and Ja'lahn Limbrick, who finished fifth with a mark of 5.55 meters.
In the throws, Stanley Rhone and Damion Hammond Jr. represented the Bleu Devils across multiple events. Rhone recorded 37.05 meters in the hammer throw, while Hammond posted 31.76 meters in the javelin. The pair also competed in the shot put and discus, contributing valuable marks for Dillard. The Bleu Devils will be competing on Saturday March 21 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
