Dillard blasts Talladega 12-1 to move on in tournament play
NORTHPORT, AL. — Dillard (LA) left little doubt Sunday afternoon, rolling past Talladega (AL) 12-1 in five innings on April 26 to advance in the tournament bracket.
Talladega struck first in the top of the first when Ciara Bowe laced an RBI double to left-center to score Aidan Johnson for a 1-0 lead. From there, Dillard's offense flipped the game immediately and never looked back.
The Bleu Devils answered with four runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Jessica Battiste's two-run single and Grace Hunter's RBI triple. Dillard then broke the game open in the second with a six-run outburst, fueled by Sa'Vya Sutherland's RBI triple, an RBI single by Haley Weatherspoon, a two-run single from Brooklyn Baltzell, and a two-run homer from Ja'Lise Stewart that pushed the margin to 10-1.
Dillard tacked on two more in the third, capitalizing on Talladega defensive miscues—Talladega committed four errors on the day—while Dillard played clean softballl with zero errors.
In the circle, Kylie Price delivered a steady complete game, allowing one run on five hits over five innings with two strikeouts to earn the win and keep Dillard in control throughout.
Dillard finished with 11 hits and aggressive pressure on the bases, including two stolen bases from Weatherspoon as the Bleu Devils turned early momentum into a run-rule victory. The ladies will be playing Stillman College at 5:00 p.m.
