Skyhawks Unable To Hold First Half Lead
WEST POINT, Ga. - - An eleven-point halftime lead slipped away as the Point women's basketball team dropped a 62-45 decision to Thomas Thursday afternoon.
The Skyhawks built a 30-19 halftime lead behind the play of Zariah Fannin who netted five of her team-best 15 points in the opening 10 minutes.
Point pushed the lead to 11 thanks to a 3-pointer from Phallan Thomas for the final points of the opening half.
Things would not go as well for the home squad in the second half. Thomas would go on a 20-to-1 scoring spurt to take a 41-33 lead late in the third quarter.
The Skyhawks would get back within two as a layup by Madison Nesbit made the score 41-39 as she scored the opening four points of the final stanza.
From there, the Nighthawks controlled the remainder of the game. Aailyah Ringold tallied six of her eight points down the stretch to aid Thomas to a big showing from its bench. The Nighthawks' Kennedy Collins led all players with 17 points coming off the bench.
Point was limited to 24.2 percent shooting in the contest while Thomas hit 40.4 of its field goal attempts.
Nesbit finished with 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds in the loss. Point will return to play Saturday at home against Abraham Baldwin in a 12 p.m. tip.
