Dillard Defeats Paul Quinn for the Second Time
NEW ORLEANS– (October 17, 2025) In a commanding display of volleyball prowess, Dillard University swept Paul Quinn College in straight sets, winning 3-0 in a lively matchup at Dent Hall. With set scores of 32-30, 25-22, and 25-20, Dillard improved their season record to 12-7, with an impressive 8-1 in conference play.
The first set proved to be the most competitive, as Paul Quinn pushed Dillard to the brink, ultimately falling 32-30. Despite Paul Quinn's valiant efforts, marked by strong performances from players like A'Niyah Harrison, who contributed 12 kills with a .258 hitting percentage, they couldn't maintain their momentum in the subsequent sets.
Dillard's offensive strategy was spearheaded by Makaela Swoopes, who delivered an impressive 20 kills with a .500 hitting percentage, showcasing her effectiveness at the net. Cadence Thomas also contributed significantly with 10 kills and a .304 hitting percentage, helping Dillard maintain consistent pressure on Paul Quinn's defense.
Nanyelis Sosa-Moreno proved instrumental in orchestrating Dillard's attack, delivering 28 assists and demonstrating strategic acumen throughout the match. Dillard's defensive efforts were equally commendable, with the team accumulating 58 digs, led by Trenity Pender with 12, which helped them efficiently counter Paul Quinn's offensive attempts.
While Paul Quinn put forth a solid defensive effort with 46 digs and some notable performances, including Jakayla Morrow's 10 kills with a .368 hitting percentage, they were outmatched by Dillard's cohesive team effort and higher hitting efficiency of .308 compared to their .244.
This victory solidifies Dillard's position near the top of the conference standings, as they displayed a balanced combination of offensive strength and defensive resilience. Paul Quinn, now 13-12 and 5-3 in the conference, will look to regroup and adjust their strategy moving forward.
The match, held in front of a lively crowd of 87 spectators, was expertly officiated by referees Tamikia Jones and Victor Cajigas, with Robin and Bruce Hebert serving as line judges.
